SPOC Inc. provides a novel medical device that assists medical professionals in identifying the most frequent cause of back and neck pain - muscle trigger points. Instead of viewing muscles as the primary source of pain, many physicians neglect them and focus on spinal vertebrae, discs, and nerves. Even if the muscle is not over looked, pinpointing pain-causing trigger points is extremely difficult with today’s conventional diagnosis methods. In fact, 85% of back pain cases are diagnosed as “non-specific low-back pain” in which the direct cause of the pain cannot be determined.

Neglecting or misdiagnosing muscular pain can lead to unnecessary and unsuccessful surgeries for the some 80% of Americans who experience back or neck pain at some point in their lifetime.

SPOC’s product provides the solution by locating the exact muscle or muscles that generate pain. This will help to eliminate unnecessary surgeries and other medical treatments which can exceed over $26 billon per year in the US alone.

SPOCs new device facilitates a revolutionary method for pain diagnosis developed by Dr. Norman Marcus. Dr. Marcus is a leading pain management physician as well as the Chief Medical Officer of SPOC.

SPOCs product does not compete with current methods of pain diagnosis, instead it enhances tools such as MRI, CT-scan, X-ray, and physical examination reach a more conclusive diagnosis.

SPOC also compliments the pharmaceutical industry by helping doctors to properly correlate the prescription of pain killers to the correct source of pain. This may help patients achieve lasting relief by pharmaceutics alone, rather than more invasive procedures such as surgery.

SPOC has been receiving national press coverage featured on programs such as the CBS Evening News, ABC’s Eyewitness News and Good Morning America, and in the printed press further cementing the public’s interest in the device.

The device is currently undergoing clinical trials at NYU Medical School and is being submitted to the FDA for approval in August 2007.
